Building a Better Everyday Living

Our team acquires and invests in innovative businesses that help transform our business, lower our climate footprint, and have a positive impact on society.

Our retail business is on a path of transformation to become a unique omnichannel retailer, meeting changing consumer behaviours as well as becoming circular and climate positive. We can play an important role in accelerating this change through our acquisitions and investments in companies developing new technologies, capabilities, and services to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Investment scope

Since 2015, we have invested in startups and businesses at the growth stage and beyond. We focus on innovative companies in logistics and fulfilment, home furnishing services, financial services, and other relevant areas, such as alternative food, retail-tech, and new (home) services.

Our mandate allows us to do both venture investments and Mergers & Acquisitions. In our minority portfolio, we typically invest in later stage venture rounds but in specific cases we consider investing earlier if there us a strong business rationale. We prefer to take an ownership stake of at least 5%. If there is a high strategic relevance, we consider larger ownership stakes or opt to take full ownership.

Long-term investor

We invest in companies that enable us to better meet customers in a more sustainable way, wherever they are. Growing a company and bringing about change takes time. Therefore, we can take a long-term perspective to help companies fully develop.

Business development potential

We bring long-term value and business development potential to the companies we invest in. By drawing on our expertise and experience as a global retailer and the wider Ingka Group, we can advise our portfolio companies on their journey to grow. We always look to establish or strengthen business links between our IKEA Retail business and portfolio companies. However, commercial relationships are not a prerequisite to investment.
